As a meet recap, all of the Typhoon swimmers did an outstanding job on Saturday morning against the Northern Middlesex YMCA Barracudas! Both swim team’s had great results with quite a few swimmers dropping time which is always hard in this part of the season! Along with the great times, we had one more swimmer qualify for New England’s and another swimmer qualify for New England’s in an alternate event! Great swimming to the both of you!

I wanted to congratulate all of the Typhoon swimmers who participated in the meet against Northwestern YMCA Lasers this past weekend.  You all did an outstanding job, and we had one more swimmer qualify for New England Regional Championships!  A huge congratulations to that swimmer, and let’s swim hard this week!

Applebees Fundraiser (January 2, 2010): Money raised will be funding the banquet.  We need 100% participation to meet our goal of paying for each swimmer’s meal and participation awards.

• The window for ticket sales is quickly closing and we need to hear from YOU in two days, by December 24.   Applebees requires a headcount 1 week prior to the event.  If you cannot find Kathy, please give the money and/or tickets to Coaches Kaitlin or Nicole.  You can also email Kathy Garner @ kathryn.garner@ubs.com, call @ 203-248-1982 or 860-616-9073, or send in the mail 100 London Drive, Hamden, CT.
• Many thanks to the following families who have purchased tickets or will be coming to the Applebees fundraiser: Allen / Vincent, Andoh, Bunton, Fontes, Fox, Garner, Hammerberg, Kaptain, Miller, Munstermann, Pagni, Rockwell, and Schrier.
• For those families who have NOT responded, this is a great way to earn volunteer points!
• As a reminder, each person will need to present their ticket in order to get served breakfast.  Kathy tracks all sold tickets so if you lose your tickets, she can double check and can help with replacement tickets if necessary.

Volunteer Points Tracking:

• Typhoons family volunteer points tracking document is attached.  The first page is the summary of how many volunteer points your family has earned to date. The second page is the breakdowns from December.  Please note that if you donated food items for our first HOME meet, you would have earned 3 volunteer points.  If you volunteered either as a timer or snack bar worker, you would have earned 4 points for the entire meet.  Food donation points are captured under the “Timers first half – December 12” column.  Snack bar and timer volunteer points are captured under the Timers heading.  If you feel that your data are not correct, please let me know (do not REPLY ALL please).

Dear Typhoons swimmers and parents:

Our swimmers did a great job during our first HOME meet last Saturday.  We have a total of 5 swimmers who now qualify for the New England swimming championship in March.

Thank you SO much to all the volunteers who helped out and donated items.  If you did not initial the sign up sheet next to the snack stand during the meet, please let me know.  I will forward your request to the person responsible.  DO NOT REPLY ALL.

Swim Meets

• Holiday practice schedule:  Regular practices will be held Mondays to Wednesdays for the week of Dec 21-23 and Dec 28-30.  There will be NO practices on Thursdays and Friday of these two weeks.  Juniors are welcome to swim with Seniors on Wednesdays.

• For the day of the event, we are still looking for some volunteers to work at Applebees (please see gray highlights of the attached pdf document).  For this fundraiser, the kids will do most of the work while parents are in a supervisory role.  Each volunteer will be earning volunteer points and we encourage everyone to participate.  It is a great team building experience!  .

The meet results for this past weekend have been posted.  I want to congratulate all swimmers who participated and thank the Mystic YMCA Hammerheads for traveling to us for our first home swim meet of the season!  Both swim teams did a phenomenal job in the water!

Despite Mother Nature and Jack Frost’s teamwork, we will be holding practice this evening (12/9/2009).

To promote Typhoons team spirit, the Parents Board respectfully asks that the swimmers stay till the end of our HOME meet to cheer for our team, unless there are other extraneous circumstances.

Swim Meets

• All of our meet results, schedule, directions, and practice times are online at www.typhoonswimming.com.
• December 12th (Saturday) – HOME meet @ Albertus Magnus College – 7:45 am on deck time.  Typhoons warm up is from 8 to 8:15 am.  Meet will start around 8:45 am and projected to complete around 11 to 11:30 am.

o       Volunteers will be needed for timers, concession stand, and officials.  Please arrive at 7:30 am for volunteers to help set up.

o       We also need donations of food items and paper goods.  This will be a great way to earn volunteer points.  Please see the attached wish list.

o       Drew Kaptain is the timers coordinator.

o       Tabitha Vincent is the concession stand coordinator.

o       Parents must let Coach Andy know by TODAY, December 8th if your swimmer is participating.

Applebees Fundraiser (January 2, 2010):

• Each family was provided with 10 tickets ($5 per ticket) to sell for the Applebees pancake fundraiser.  Please return the ticket money and any unsold tickets to Kathy Garner (mom to Megan & Jacob) starting December 1.  Kathy will be at the 2 swim meets in December, and is usually around the Y with the Junior/Senior practice schedule.  If you cannot find Kathy, you can leave an envelope with Andy, Kaitlin or Nicole who will make sure that Kathy receives the package.
