Great Meet With Indian Valley YMCA Today!

Congratulations to both the Indian Valley YMCA Breakers as well as the Hamden/North Haven YMCA Typhoons on a stellar swim meet this morning!  All the swimmers did a phenomenal job in and out of the water.  The coaches and I noticed that there was a great sportsmanship attitude throughout the meet with both swim teams, and we cannot appreciate that enough.

With all of that said, I have updated the meet results which you can either find on the results page or through this link: Indian Valley YMCA.

Also, as an update, I will not be at the Y over the next week due to a vacation, but practices will be held as normal.  Should you need anything please contact one of the other coaches or e-mail me (ascherer@cccymca.org).

The second update has to do with the Branford meet on the 18th…the warm-up time has been confirmed as 7:15am (nice and early so we can get out before 9:45am)!  Looking forward to seeing you on the 18th!

New Meet Added To Schedule! December 18th at Branford YMCA

Typhoons swimmers and parents, I am happy to announce that we have an intra-association meet with the Branford YMCA Stingrays on December 18th.  I am waiting on meet details such as arrival time and meet events, but this has been confirmed as an “early morning” meet and will take place at the Branford YMCA.

This, of course, means more chances for kids to qualify for Regional Championships and yet another opportunity for us to have fun on a Saturday morning!

Meet Results Posted for Meriden YMCA

This past weekend proved to be an outstanding meet for both the Meriden YMCA Seals as well as the Hamden/North Haven Typhoons.  Several swimmers from the Hamden/North Haven YMCA achieved personal best times, and all swimmers looked like they had a great time (yet again).  In fact, when I had asked the Silver group what was their favorite part of the weekend they almost immediately exclaimed “The Swim Meet”!!

With that said, I have posted the results to the swim meet on the Meet Result page, but you can also find it here (Meriden YMCA).  Again, great job to all swimmers, and I am looking forward to our next meet (December 4th against  Fairfield YMCA).

Valley Ansonia Home Swim Meet Results

This past Sunday (November 14th) marked the official start of the Hamden/North Haven YMCA Typhoon swim team’s short course meet season.  As we played host to the Valley Ansonia YMCA Sprinters, the meet went off without a hitch!  Parents from both swim teams stepped up to help time, the kids had a great time overall, and the coaches are extremely proud of everyone’s accomplishments.

We have posted the results on our Meet Result page, but you can also find the results here: Valley Ansonia YMCA Results.

Again, congratulations to all the swimmers, and I am looking forward to another great meet this weekend as we swim against the Meriden YMCA in Meriden!

Updated Participation Policy

Parents, after some considerations and meeting with the Parent Board, we have decided to adjust the Parent Participation Policy (formerly the “Volunteer Policy”).  The major changes are as follows:

  • 4 Points for Timer, Concession Worker, Fundraiser Worker, and Runner (full meet participation)
  • 2 Points for Timer, Concession Worker, Fundraiser Worker, and Runner (half meet participation)
  • 2 Points for Concession Donation (per home meet)
  • 1 Point for Participation in Parent Meeting (per monthly meeting)

Our goal with this policy is to encourage and support the full participation of each Typhoon family.  The larger the family support, the more successful our events become.

Should you have any questions or need anything else please contact Coach Andy.

Potential Change for Yankee Clusters in 2011

I will keep everyone posted as this process moves forward, but the dates of the YMCA Yankee Cluster Championships are in question from the originally discussed dates.  This change was generated from two primary reasons:

  1. Other teams commenting that the original date didn’t work for their families
  2. Change in the dates for New England Regionals

With all that said, the new dates for Yankee Clusters are February 25, 2011 to February 27, 2011.  I know that a lot of you have already started planning your vacations so I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.

Please, as always, let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

-Coach Andy

YMCA New England’s 2011 Updated

As a quick update and note to swimmers and parents, the YMCA New England Regional Championship will be held (pending final approval) the weekend of March 25th through March 27th.  I have posted the qualifying times for this meet on our swim meet schedule, but you can also find them here: 2011 YMCA New England Regional Qualifying Times.

For those of you who need more information on this meet, this meet either requires the swimmer to meet a qualifying time or participate on a relay team to attend.  We plan on having relay teams for all age groups attend and will communicate those relay teams and individual qualifiers as we near closer to the end of our regular season.

Should anyone have questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to let me know.

Happy Swimming and Go Typhoons!

Four Days Til Swim-A-Long

The third annual Hamden/North Haven YMCA Typhoons Swim-A-Long is approaching fast!  As one of the larger fundraisers for the team, Typhoon families have 4 more days to raise funds (event is on 10-29-2010).  Please remember that pledge forms and pledges are due the day of the Swim-A-Long, and swimmers are broken into their respective groups.

This means that there is no practice this Friday, but there is (obviously) the Swim-A-Long in the following order:

  • Gold, Junior, Senior @ 5:00 – 6:15pm
  • Silver @ 6:15 – 7:15pm

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, and I look forward to a great event this upcoming Friday!

YMCA National Virtual Invitational Meet (10-23-2010)

Tomorrow marks the first meet of the 2010-2011 short course season for the Gold, Junior and Senior swimmers of the Hamden/North Haven YMCA Typhoons.  At the YMCA National Virtual Invitational Meet, swimmers compete locally and have their times entered into a database which will place their events throughout all competitors throughout the nation.  Last year, the Typhoon Swim Team had a very successful meet with several swimmers placing in the top 16, and we are looking forward to more fun and outstanding swims.

Warm-up starts at 12:00, and we look forward to seeing you all (Gold, Junior and Senior swimmers) on the pool deck in Middletown.
