Coach Lauren Hammang (Head Age group Coach – Silver Group)

Coach Lauren proved to be an outstanding addition to the Typhoons. In her first season as the head age group coach for Silver, she led the 8 and under girls to the team’s first League Championship Title. Aside from her great first season with the Typhoons, Coach Lauren has had incredible experience as both a coach and a swimmer. She strives to help each one of her Silver swimmers develop both in the pool and out while having fun throughout each of her practices.

Coach Nicole Fuller (Head Age Group Coach – Gold Group)

Coach Nicole enters into her 4th season with the Typhoons after having swum competitively for over 14 years.  She joined the Hamden North Haven Typhoon Swim Team during the 2009/2010 Short Course Season and was able to lead her swimmers to great results within the Yankee Cluster and New England Regional Championships.  Coach Nicole has 4 years of coaching experience and had developed 9 Regional Qualifiers in the past two seasons.  She is looking forward to continuing the rapid improvement with the younger swimmers to help them have fun, succeed and accomplish their goals throughout the season.

Coach Kathy May (Head Age Group Coach – Junior Group)

Coach Kathy starts her 3rd season with the Typhoons after joining the team for the 2010/2011 Short Course season with several years experience encompassing all areas of aquatics.  Coach Kathy has helped develop 13 Regional Qualifiers over the past 2 seasons, and has a great background in U.S. Swimming as a stroke and turn official, and U.S. certified coach.  While Kathy has primarily assisted the Juniors and Seniors, she will step into the role of Head Age Group Coach for the Juniors during the 2011-2012 season.
The Coaching Structure
The Typhoon coaching staff is set up to provide one head age group coach per group. The practice structure, training objectives, motor learning objectives, knowledge and attitude requirements, and competition objectives are based on our team’s unique Swimmer Development Model.

A season yardage and focus plan is developed during the off-season by the coaching staff, and weekly team meetings are held by the coaching staff to discuss group workouts, training obstacles, and swimmer development. These meetings allow better coach development as well as a more in-depth approach to out team/swimmer development. The head age group coaches run their respective practices with support and supervision from Coach Andy.

If you have any questions about the coaching philosophies or anything else at all, please feel free to contact Coach Andy via phone (203-248-6361) or e-mail: ascherer@cccymca.org
