Gold group swimmers (ages 8 to 13 years old) typically have some swim team experience and are able to demonstrate all four strokes legally and efficiently. Gold swimmers may also have participated in a swim team clinic or YMCA of the USA swimming lessons at the Fish/Flying Fish level.
Training & Practices: Swimmers in gold group are expected to attend at least 3 in-water and 1 dry-land session per week. In-water practices range from 1 hour to 1.25 hours while dry-land activities are 30 minutes. While in the water, gold group swimmers can expect to swim between 2200 to 3800 yards per practice.
- Introduce race technique.
- Introduce racing skill sets.
- Increase aerobic endurance.
- Speed at lengths of 50 yards and overall acceleration.
- Introduce all training methods.
- Increase strength to body weight ratio.
- Even development of all muscle groups.
- General flexibility.
- Improve core body strength.
- Improve stroke technique and learn racing skills (i.e. proper racing turns and underwaters, proper racing starts and breakouts, pacing, and acceleration).
- Consolidate stroke development through more in-depth technique drills.
- Improve both swim endurance and speed while maintaining stroke technique throughout all swims.
- Develop simple race strategies and tactics.
- Enjoyment of pool and land based activities.
- Become part of the team culture.
- Develop habits which support an active and healthy lifestyle.
- Begin to function with less direct supervision and make positive decisions regarding training compliance.
Competition Objectives:
Team level competitions leading up to New England Regional and/or Age Group Championships. Skill development, improvement, and number of events swum are the most important goals. Gold group swimmers are expected to attend Yankee Cluster League Championships, all home meets, and 80% of away meets. Back to the Top
Equipment Requirements:
Swim caps are required for hair longer than shoulder length during practice and are required for everyone during swim meets (one team cap will be provided at registration for those meets). A competition suit is also required and can be ordered upon request. With regard to practice equipment, kickboards, pull buoys, and fins can be ordered through our Equipment Manager. The only other requirement for our swimmers is to have a smile and a great attitude! Back to the Top
- Swimmer must demonstrate ability to handle a practice of 3800 yards for a 1.25 hour practice while maintaining adequate and efficient technique.
- Swimmer must demonstrate an attendance of 4 practices per week.
- Swimmer must possess at least 2 years of Gold group training unless otherwise advised by the coaching staff.
- Swimmer must be at least 10 years old (or turn 10 during the season).
