Swim Team Practice Times

As a quick update, there is a good possibility that the Hamden North Haven Typhoon Swim Team will be holding some practices at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven.  We don’t have details yet, but are trying to solidify everything by the  beginning of next week.  This would be a great addition to the Typhoon Swim Team as we have increased in size over the past three seasons and are looking to expand once again this season.

I will keep you as up to date as possible on any breaking news!

Happy Swimming and Go Typhoons!

Last Week’s Swim Meet with the Waterbury Swim Team

Last Friday’s swim meet with the Waterbury YMCA Swim Team went extremely well for the Hamden North Haven Typhoons!  Our swimmers posted 70% of their swims as personal best times and several team records were broken; keep in mind this was the first meet of the 2009 Summer Season as well!

With all of that said, I thought the swimmers did an outstanding job and I hope they all had fun out there!  I definitely look forward to seeing everyone this upcoming Friday at the Mystic YMCA as their swim team plays host to our second meet of the season!

Happy Swimming, and Go Typhoons!

In general, I (as well as the other coaches) were extremely happy with the turnout for the first week of clinic, and we were also excited about how much the swimmers were learning!  We cannot wait for next week to start so we can begin building some endurance!

Happy Swimming, and Go Typhoons!!

Hamden North Haven YMCA Swim Team – New England’s

The Hamden North Haven YMCA Swim Team has their final meet of the short course season this weekend in Boston, MA at the New England Regional Championships.  The Typhoons did extremely well this year throughout all of their meets and we had 5 of our swimmers who were able to swim qualifying times for the championships.  We will also be bringing 3 relay teams with us to enjoy the meet!

All the best to those swimmers competing this weekend, and I look forward to seeing everyone have fun!

Hamden North Haven YMCA Swim Team – Year End Summary

As the Hamden North Haven YMCA Swim Team has officially ended our Regular Season for 2008/2009 Short Course, I would like to look back on this year’s happenings.  However, before that I would just like to thank all of the swim team parents, swimmers, and everybody else that has been involved with this past season!  Without your support, involvement, and commitment the we wouldn’t have been able to accomplish a majority of these achievements this year!  So, thank you, and I truly hope to see you at the Hamden North Haven YMCA Swim Team banquet on April 5th, and April 27th for the Spring Swim Clinic!

And now on to the Hamden North Haven YMCA Typhoon Happenings of the 2008/2009 Short Course Season in no particular order (and please feel free to let me know if I have forgotten something):

I, honestly, cannot thank everyone enough for a great regular season; I am absolutely looking forward to the pre-season clinic in April, and the Summer Season!!!  Let’s all wish the New England Qualifiers and their Relay Teams the best for their competition at the New England Championship swim meet in March!  Go Typhoons!!

Last Practice

The Hamden North Haven Swim Team (the YMCA Typhoons) held their final regular season (Short Course) practice last night.  Everyone did a fantastic job during the taper, and will hopefully benefit from all of the hard work at this weekend’s swim meet!

With regard to this weekend’s YMCA championship swim meet, arrival times for all swimmers have been sent, entries have been posted on our website, and directions to Plainville are also available on the website.  If you have any other questions please feel free to give me a call or e-mail me at any point!

Also, since we are nearing the end of the Short Course Season, thoughts of the Long Course season are coming up.  With that said, the Swim Clinic registration has started and will begin April 27, 2009.  The clinic is two weeks and leads directly into the Long Course Season.  Registration Information can be found on our website under www.typhoonswimming.com/registration.html.  There will also be a registration form posted on the home page and the Long Course page as soon as possible.

Updated Hamden North Haven Swim Team Website

Alright, I just updated our Hamden North Haven Swim Team site, and added our team records.  I know that there are several records that have been broken this year and not all of the records are current to today’s date.  However, I will be updating them as we move forward throughout the year.  With that said, feel free to take a look at our new swim team records, and let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.  As always, we are breaking records almost every meet so it will be a bit tough to keep up with this year…no complaints on my end with regard to the record-breaking!  Keep up the great work, Typhoons!

Also, as a quick reminder, I do need to know if you are attending the upcoming swim meet against Southington YMCA’s Swim Team.  The meet is at home so there is little to no travel for everyone, and this is our last YMCA Dual Swim Meet prior to Yankee Cluster Championships in Plainville (weekend of February 20th).  Thanks, again, Everyone!

Hamden North Haven YMCA Swim Meet with Northern Middlesex YMCA

This past weekend marked one of Hamden North Haven YMCA Typhoons’ last swim meets of the season.  The meet was held on February 7th at the Northern Middlesex YMCA with the Barracudas Swim Team.  There were a few technical faults with regard to entries, but everything worked out fine in the end!

The Typhoon swimmers, from what I saw and heard, had a great time supporting each other, and times looked great from what Coach Elaina, Coach Alisse, and I were recording.  One new swimmer qualified for New England Regional Championship (which will allow us to send a 9-10 boys’ relay team), and two of our swimmers (already qualified) improved their seed time for their qualifying events.  I will, hopefully, have the swim meet results to post on the website by tomorrow evening!

Next weekend (February 14, 2009) will be our last YMCA Dual Swim Meet until the Long Course Season.  We will be at home (Albertus Magnus) with the arrival time of 7:45 am and warm-ups starting at 8:00 am.  Please make sure you let me know as soon as possible whether or not you plan on attending.  Since this is the last dual meet for our Hamden North Haven Swim Team, and we are nearing the Yankee Cluster Championship (entries posted on our YMCA Swim Team website, I hope that we can get a good showing from all of our swimmers!

Happy Swimming, and Go Typhoons!!

Hamden North Haven YMCA Swim Team – Practice Cancelled Tonight

So, due to the snow (once again) we had to cancel practice for our Hamden North Haven YMCA Swim Team (the Typhoons).  While we cancelled for the Silver and Gold group, we still had practice (though abbreviated) for the Junior and Senior groups.  With that said, those two groups works extremely hard and deserve a huge “thank you” for not letting the weather affect how you practice!!

As a quick reminder, I do need to know which swimmers are planning on swimming at the Yankee Cluster Championship as soon as possible.  I need to submit the swimming entries no later than February 6, 2009 which only gives me a few days to fill everything out.  That being said, I somewhat expect (and please pardon my tone) our swimmers to attend the meet that weekend in Plainville (at the Plainville High School).  It is a very important meet as it will be the last “hoorah” for the season for several of the swimmers and is somewhat unfair to the swimmers who are going to be there and relying on a team relay for 5 events.  So, it is not necessarily for my sake that you would attend, but for the sake of the team and your swimmers’ friends (no guilt trip or anything ;-) .

Alright, so I look forward to no snow tomorrow and back to practice as usual for our Hamden North Haven Swim Team!

Happy Swimming!!
