Northern Middlesex YMCA Results

The results have been posted from this past weekend’s swim meet. You can click the following link for them (NMYB Results) or find them under our swim meet results page.

As a meet recap, all of the Typhoon swimmers did an outstanding job on Saturday morning against the Northern Middlesex YMCA Barracudas! Both swim team‘s had great results with quite a few swimmers dropping time which is always hard in this part of the season! Along with the great times, we had one more swimmer qualify for New England’s and another swimmer qualify for New England’s in an alternate event! Great swimming to the both of you!

See you all on deck!

Updated Hamden North Haven Swim Team Website

Alright, I just updated our Hamden North Haven Swim Team site, and added our team records.  I know that there are several records that have been broken this year and not all of the records are current to today’s date.  However, I will be updating them as we move forward throughout the year.  With that said, feel free to take a look at our new swim team records, and let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.  As always, we are breaking records almost every meet so it will be a bit tough to keep up with this year…no complaints on my end with regard to the record-breaking!  Keep up the great work, Typhoons!

Also, as a quick reminder, I do need to know if you are attending the upcoming swim meet against Southington YMCA’s Swim Team.  The meet is at home so there is little to no travel for everyone, and this is our last YMCA Dual Swim Meet prior to Yankee Cluster Championships in Plainville (weekend of February 20th).  Thanks, again, Everyone!

Waterbury YMCA Swim Meet

I have to say that our swim meet today against the Waterbury YMCA Swim Team (the Barracudas) was a great first meet to have at home.  From Waterbury YMCA’s sportmanship and coaching to all of the parents helping out, and the great swims that all of the Hamden North Haven YMCA Swim Team (the Typhoons) had!  It was, honestly, a pleasure hosting this meet so a huge congratulations and “Thank You” has to go out to all that helped make this a more efficient meet for the two YMCA Swim Teams involved!

So, as the head coach of this Hamden North Haven Swim Team I have to say that Coach Elaina and I are so extremely proud of everyone of our swimmers today!  As I was going over the results (which will be posted on our Short Course page tomorrow afternoon), I noticed that almost all – if not all – of our swimmers had personal best times in at least one event!  As I had previously mentioned in other posts (and what I have mentioned to some of the swim groups and parents), we increased yardage again this past week so the drops in times for a second consecutive week was completely unexpected.  I know I said the same thing last week after our Mystic Swim Meet, but I truly am impressed with the effort our swimmers give in practice and the meets!  It shows us (as coaches) that they truly love swimming for the Typhoons and love the sport of swimming!  With that in mind, we had two more qualifying times for the YMCA Regional New England Championship swim meet!  So, congratulations to everyone, again, and definitely check out the results tomorrow!

Well, on to the next topic which is a big tri-meet with the Wallingford YMCA Swim Team (the Dolphins) and the Valley YMCA Swim Team (the Sprinters)!  We have a couple weeks of rest between today’s meet and this event, but it is well deserved!  So, swimmers, enjoy the rest between meets and let’s have some fun in practice over the next two weeks or so!

Hamden North Haven YMCA Swim Meet

Alright, so just very quickly I wanted to remind everyone about the events tomorrow so that everyone has accurate and up to date information on tomorrow’s home swim meet against the Waterbury YMCA Swim Team (the Barracudas).  The Applebee’s Pancake Breakfast will be held tomorrow morning from 8:00 – 10:00am.  Tickets are being sold at the door for people who haven’t bought tickets at this point.  A large portion of the ticket price is coming back to the Hamden North Haven YMCA Swim Team so this is a great way to eat food for a good cause (don’t find that all too often).  Anyway, following the breakfast there is a quick break until the meet warm-ups.

With regard to the meet, warm-ups will start at 1:15pm as soon as the lesson groups exit the natatorium.  We are slated to start the swim meet at 2:00pm.  The two YMCA Swim Teams (the Typhoons and Barracudas) agreed to lower the event list from an 82 event to a 70 event meet in order to speed up the entirity of the meet which is a good thing overall!  On top of that, we will be adding a bullpen to tomorrow’s meet that will be managed by a parent volunteer to help out with the efficiency of the meet.  So, overall, this looks like it will be a great meet (and day) for both the Waterbury YMCA as well as our Hamden North Haven Swim Team (the YMCA Typhoons)!!

Upcoming Meet Against Waterbury YMCA

I hope everyone enjoyed their day off today from swimming!  As a quick update on last weekend’s meet, we did have one swimmer qualify for New England’s in all 3 individual events that he swam.  We also had several swimmers come within 1 second of qualifying which is outstanding news that was completely unexpected for our first meet of the year.  So, again, congratulations to those swimmers!

These upcoming couple of days will be another peak yardage (around 6,000 yards for Seniors, 5,000 yard for Juniors, and 3,000 yards for the Gold group).  I would highly encourage everyone in the Junior and Senior groups to attend Friday’s practice(s) as we are primarily working on stroke and racing technique prior to the meet.  The Gold group had a great turnout last Friday so thank you parents and swimmers for that!

I cannot describe how proud I am of everyone’s improvement thus far, and cannot wait to see how well we do at this weekend’s meet against the Waterbury YMCA Swim Team!!  So, until tomorrow….Go Hamden North Haven YMCA Typhoons!!

Mystic YMCA Swim Meet

I just wanted to let everyone know that there has been a time change in the warm ups for our dual swim meet against Mystic YMCA Swim Team.  What we thought was going to be an early start time has changed to a 1:15pm start time at the Mystic YMCA.  I have heard from almost all of our Hamden North Haven Swim YMCA Swim Team, but still need to hear from a few more families prior to submitting meet entries.  So, swimming warm ups at 1:15pm with a potential start for the meet at 1:45pm (give or take).  We will be swimming an 82 event meet (just as an FYI).

Aside from that, I will be posting yesterday’s swim workout for the Seniors on this blog later today.  If anyone needs anything, or you would like to see the practice please e-mail me for the password.  Happy swimming!

Hamden North Haven YMCA Swim Team

Last night’s Senior practice was unfortunately cut shorter than expected due to an unforseen circumstance.  Fortunately, though, we were able to get back into the pool and modify our practice a little bit to fit everything in.  The Silver group focused on their IM’s last night with almost everyone swimming them legally right now.  Coach Elaina and I are definitely very proud of their progress with (what really is) the most difficult event for that group.

Getting back to our Juniors and Seniors, if you would like to see their practice, I have posted it on here but have placed a password protection on the post.  If you would like the password please feel free to e-mail me at ascherer@cccymca.org.  Or, you can find all of our contact information on our Hamden North Haven Swim Team mainpage.  It wasn’t particularely the hardest practice with regard to the yardage (due to not having the pool for about 30 minutes), but it definitely raised the bar from where we were with regard to intensity of the swims.

Tonight, I will not be in attendance for the later practices as I have to attend a YMCA Yankee Cluster League meeting at the Middletown YMCA at 7:30pm.  However, I hope everyone is having fun getting ready for their first meets coming up on November 8, 2008 where we will be swimming against the Mystic YMCA Swim Team!  Go Typhoons!

Swim Meet Cancelled

As a quick reminder to all parents and swimmers that were planning on attending the Autumn Classic in Middletown this upcoming weekend, we (unfortunately) have to cancel the meet.  Next year, this meet will be a mandatory meet for Juniors and Seniors and an optional meet for the Gold group.  Moving forward, our YMCA swim team will have our first meet in Mystic, CT on November 8, 2008.  We are still waiting for a definite start/warm-up time from the Mystic swim team, but will hopefully have that by the end of this week.

So, let’s have a great week of practice (since we have Halloween off this year), and let’s have fun!
