Wallingford YMCA Swim Meet Results Posted & Season Updates

Congratulations to all of the Typhoons who participated this past weekend in the away meet with the Wallingford YMCA Dolphins.  Both swim teams did a phenomenal job, and the Typhoons came out with several best time swims as well as a few more individual qualifying times for New England Regionals.  You can find the results on the swim meet results page or in the following link: Wallingford YMCA.

As a reminder, there is an away meet this weekend at the Torrington YMCA.  For those parents that still owe participation points please consider timing at this meet.

Also, as we near the end of the season, I want to take this opportunity to explain how the end of the season works as clearly as possible so there isn’t any confusion (or at least we can minimize confusion).

Yankee Cluster Championships

All swimmers participate in Yankee Clusters as this is the last regular season meet and is truly a lot of fun for the swimmers and the coaches.  The coaching staff is currently brainstorming some theme ideas so that we can have a little more fun as well!  Here are some more details:

  • February 25 – February 27 @ Kennedy High School in Waterbury
  • $25 flat entry fee per swimmer – must be paid on/by February 11th or the swimmer(s) will not be able to participate
  • Friday 25 @ 5:00pm – 11 and up distance events
  • Saturday 26 @ 7:30am – 8 and under swimmers (need at least 3 parent “workers”)
  • Saturday 26 @ 12:30pm – 9 and 10 swimmers (need at least 3 parent “workers”)
  • Sunday 27 @ 7:30am – 11 and 12 swimmers (need at least 3 parent “workers”)
  • Sunday 27 @ 12:30pm – 13 and over swimmers (need at least 2 parent “workers”)
  • Individual events will be selected by the coaching staff
  • Relays will be selected in terms of “A” and “B” relays as based off our New England Regional selection process (described below)

New England Regionals

Participants in the YMCA New England Regional Championships are either individual qualifiers (Qualifying Times) or swimmers on a relay team.  Here are some more details for this meet:

  • March 25 – March 27 @ Harvard University (Boston, MA), Blodgett Pool
  • Please make accommodations at the Double Tree on Soldier’s Field Road, Cambridge, MA
  • $6.00 per event entry fee
  • Relay teams are narrowed down to top 6 swimmers by the end of this week (January 18).  Four of those swimmers are then selected based on practice work ethic, overall meet performances throughout the season, and other “intangible” factors.  Those four swimmers will be notified no later than the first week of February, and will be considered our “A” relay for both Yankee Clusters and New England’s.
  • Friday, March 25 @ 5:00pm – Swimmers 15 to 18
  • Saturday, March 26 @ 6:15am – Swimmers 11 and 12
  • Saturday, March 26 @ 3:00pm – Swimmers 8 and under
  • Sunday, March 27 @ 6:15am – Swimmers 9 and 10
  • Sunday, March 27 @ 4:00pm – Swimmers 13 and 14

As always, if you have any questions or need anything at all, please feel free to let me know!

Go Typhoons!

Taper Time For The Next Two Weeks

The 2010 Long Course season for the Hamden/North Haven YMCA Swim Team is (almost too) rapidly coming to an end. With tonight marking the last dual meet of the season (swimming against the Wallingford YMCA Dolphins), taper will start this upcoming Monday for the Juniors and Seniors.  Here is a quick look at where we have been, overall, for the season as well as where taper will take us over the course of two weeks.

Throughout the summer season, we have peaked at 3350 yards per hour for the Senior group and around 3000 yards per hour for the Junior group.  With the coming taper period, we will drop to 2150 per hour for both groups for the first week while we maintain work on anaerobic phases and race paces with increased rest and concentration on technique.

For the final week, we will drop the hammer to 1525 yards per hour and fine tune all of our race technique and strategies as the Yankee Cluster Championship hits that Friday (July 23rd) and Saturday (July 24th).

Overall, it has been a phenominal seasaon, and I cannot wait to see how these upcoming two weeks turn out for the Juniors and Seniors.

P.S.  The Silver and Gold groups will be going through a “mini-taper”.  Since they are full of energy anyway, they will be truly focusing on race technique and resting just that last week before Championships.

Go Typhoons!

Wallingford YMCA & Valley Ansonia YMCA Swim Meet

I wanted to congratulate all of our Hamden North Haven Swim Team for an outstanding meet yesterday against the Wallingford YMCA Swim Team (Wallingford Dolphins) and the Valley Ansonia YMCA Swim Team (Valley Sprinters)!  Even though it was a significantly longer meet than we have had this season, all of the swimmers stayed enthusiastic and (from what we say) had fun throughout the YMCA Swim Meet.

With regard to results, I will hopefully have them posted on our Hamden North Haven YMCA Swim Team short course season page as soon as possible.  I am pretty sure that we had almost every swimmer achieve personal best times in the swim meet which was great to see!

Our next swim meet is with the Valley Ansonia YMCA Swim Team (the Valley Sprinters) again this upcoming weekend (December 13, 2008).  It will be our last swim meet of the calendar year, but should be a great turnout!  I believe the warm up time for that swim meet is 12:15 pm.

Change in Wallinford YMCA Swim Team Meet

Very (very) quickly for everyone out there, there is a change in the arrival and warm up time for our meet this upcoming weekend against the Wallingford YMCA Swim Team (the Wallingford Dolphins) and the Valley Ansonia Swim Team (the Valley Sprinters).  The arrival time is at 11:00 am with a warm-up time of 11:15 am.  I sent almost everyone on our Hamden North Haven Swim Team an e-mail with regard to this, but (as always) I figured I would post it on here as well.  Again, just as a clarification, our YMCA swim meet will be held at an 11:15 am warm-up time and not a 10:30 warm-up time for this Saturday (December 6, 2008).

Go Typhoons!

This Weekend’s Meet: Wallingford Swim Team & Ansonia Swim Team

As a quick update, our Hamden North Haven YMCA Swim Team (the Typhoons) will be swimming against the Wallingford YMCA Swim Team (the Dolphins) and Valley Ansonia Swim Team (the Sprinters). The arrival time for our YMCA Swim Meet is 10:15 am with warm-ups starting at 10:30 am at Sheehan High School. This should be a great meet for all to attend and will be a ton of fun for everyone!

If anyone has any questions regarding this meet please let me know, and I will do my best to get any other information or changes out to everyone ASAP. As always, happy swimming and Go Typhoons!!
